Safety Warnings
- Never work on the telephone system if you wear a pacemaker.
- Telephone lines carry electricity, up to 90 volts when ringing.
- Always use tools with insulated handles.
- Disconnect the modular plug in your NID before working on your phone system.
- Do not modify or connect to any wiring on the phone company's side of your NID
- Never place telephone wiring in the same conduit, junction box or outlet as power cables.
- Never work on your telephone system during a thunderstorm.
- Never work on your telephone system during a power or telephone outage.
- Secure your NID with a padlock.
NID The Network Interface Device (also known as MPOE) is where your phone company's service comes into your property or house. It usually contains a modular phone plug that you can use for testing the line. Any problem on the far side of the NID is the phone company's responsibility. Any problem on this side of the NID is where we can help you.
