Safety Warnings

• Never work on the telephone system if you wear a pacemaker.
• Telephone lines carry electricity, up to 90 volts when ringing.
• Always use tools with insulated handles.
• Disconnect the modular plug in your NID before working on your phone system.
• Do not modify or connect to any wiring on the phone company's side of your NID
• Never place telephone wiring in the same conduit, junction box or outlet as power cables.
• Never work on your telephone system during a thunderstorm.
• Never work on your telephone system during a power or telephone outage.
• Secure your NID with a padlock.

NID The Network Interface Device (also known as MPOE) is where your phone company's service comes into your property or house. It usually contains a modular phone plug that you can use for testing the line. Any problem on the far side of the NID is the phone company's responsibility.
